How we came out with the game

WHY Fashion Pirate?

The reason why we called the game "Fashion Pirate" is because the game is talking about the fashion of youths and what the fashion trends that many youths followed, thus not making it original. This game is to show the trends of fashion in youths now. How their taste of the trend fashion carry themselves out to the public and how the trend influences their mindset.

What inspired us to create this concept.

Initially we were asked to come out with a game concept using the theme "Singapore culture". My group of game masters were looking into the teenagers.

We thought that every era has their own unique sense of fashion, thus, not excluding this new era of youths.Every era has it's own unique way of fashion. For example in the 60s, our parents were wearing vintage clothes. bell bottom, high cut skirts, long hair for both sexes. This had made us interested in wanting to find out what youths in this era perception of fashion is.

Thus, Fashion Pirate is BORN.

Evaluation

Difficulty Level: Game play is simple, you just have to compete against time and beat your opponents timing, the fastest runner wins! But definitely at the initial board game stage, it really depends on your luck. If you have to hunt for more items as compared to your opponents then you definitely need to spent more time doing.

Fun Factor: 4 thumbs up! (As commented by our players in the review later) It is challenging as a fixed time is given to complete the game.

Replay ability: First of all, since it is something challenging, you might not win all the time and the things that the players are suppose to find is going to be different all the time. Some may feel that they want to have a chance to play again as they had lost the previous round and lastly it is fun!

Depth or length of Game: There is a certain route you have to follow but however you can re-arrange as to what to look for first that would best benefit the team (a little strategy might work!).

Comments from players:

Alwyn: “It was fun and I don’t mind trying again, you meet lots of people while playing it, example the very enthusiastic type and the very cold type! I would recommend to my friends to play with me in the future!”

Christel: “I think its fun and I would like to play the game, some classes were enthusiastic while some just ignores you thinking you are an idiot or something, but anyway we won the game yay!!”

Sean: “It’s not fun so tiring! And if I want to play I want to make sure I will win the game when I play it!”

Simin:”I had a lot of fun though it’s tiring I can make use of this chance to shed some weight! Ha-ha.”

The Pros and Cons

Pros
A good start for students in a new school. By running around and interacting with fellow students from different blocks, this is a rather effective way of getting to know more friends and what more get familiar with school grounds. Having the need to run around school all day provides an exciting factor and an adrenaline rush not knowing where your competitors are and whether they have finish, very light-hearted fun game.

Cons
Having the need to run around school, may be rather time consuming and tiring.

process of playing the game

History and summary of the game

Slightly similar to the “amazing race”, a lot of running around just to beat the clock and emerge first at the end of the tasks given.

The game play

• Players are supposed to use a dices and move your cues accordingly.
• When cue lands on “freedom”, pick up a card and follow instructions for e.g. Pass one task to the next team, which means lesser task to do, more time to finish the game.
• When cue lands on “handcuff”, pick up a card and follow instructions for e.g. move 3 steps backwards, lesser time to finish the board game.
• When cue lands on a particular block like W1, E4, pick up a task and you are only allowed to do it when player finishes the board game.

summary of the game:

The game is greatly enjoyed by the people who take part in it. It’s a game which needs a lot of interaction with people over the school. It creates chances for people from different schools (STA, SAS, SHL, SEG, and SIT) to meet and talk to one another. The main point of the game is to show how people dresses and what is the most fashionable wear that teenagers wear nowadays.

With that, we can see who actually the trend-setter is and how teens handle situations like asking a favor from others.

What our team recommends is that, in the process of playing the game, they will interact with people they seldom meet or don’t even know. In turn, they make new friends and gain a better understanding on how people usually dress. They also get to do some physical exercise like running around the school in order to be the first team to return back with the photos.

Tactics like handling different people’s attitude and behavior is also practiced in order to win the game.
